Check whether a website supports IPv6 using our free Website IPv6 Support Checker. Enter a domain name to find its IPv6 AAAA DNS records and check whether its HTTPS service responds over IPv6, when the checking server supports outgoing IPv6 connections.
The tool helps website owners, hosting administrators, developers, and visitors identify whether a hostname advertises IPv6 and whether an IPv6 HTTPS connection can be confirmed.
Check Your Website’s IPv6 Support
Check a domain's IPv6 DNS records and, when supported by our hosting server, test HTTPS access over IPv6. Checks run on this website's server. The entered domain is sent to our server and queried in DNS; results may be cached temporarily. This is not a test of your own device's IPv6 connectivity.Website IPv6 Support Checker
How to Check Website IPv6 Support
Checking a website takes three simple steps:
- Enter your website address. Type a domain such as
example.comor enter its complete HTTPS URL. - Click Check IPv6 Support. The checker looks for IPv6 DNS records and, when possible, attempts a secure HTTPS connection over IPv6.
- Review your results. See the available IPv6 addresses, IPv4 DNS availability, and whether HTTPS connectivity over IPv6 was confirmed.
You can check both example.com and www.example.com separately, as these hostnames may have different DNS configurations.
What Does the Website IPv6 Checker Test?
Our checker performs several related checks to help explain a website’s IPv6 configuration.
IPv6 AAAA Record Lookup
An AAAA record is a Domain Name System (DNS) record that maps a hostname to an IPv6 address.
The checker searches for AAAA records associated with the entered hostname. It can also follow a short chain of DNS aliases (CNAME records) when needed.
If AAAA records are present, the website advertises IPv6 addresses through DNS. However, DNS records alone do not prove that the website accepts connections over IPv6.
IPv6 HTTPS Connectivity
When supported by the NetTools Pakistan hosting server, the checker attempts an HTTPS connection over IPv6 using a public IPv6 address returned by DNS.
The test sends an HTTPS HEAD request to the hostname’s root path using port 443, verifies the TLS certificate, and checks whether an HTTP response is received. It tests up to two public IPv6 addresses and does not follow redirects.
A successful response indicates that HTTPS was reachable over IPv6 from the checking server at the time of testing. It does not guarantee connectivity from every network or location.
IPv4 DNS Record Check
The tool also looks for IPv4 A records, which map a hostname to IPv4 addresses.
This helps identify whether the hostname advertises IPv4 addresses alongside IPv6 addresses. A website can publish both record types, allowing compatible clients to connect using either internet protocol.
Understanding Your IPv6 Checker Results
| Result | What It Means |
|---|---|
| HTTPS is reachable over IPv6 | The checking server successfully reached the hostname over IPv6 and received an HTTPS response. |
| AAAA records found, but HTTPS not confirmed | IPv6 DNS records exist, but the connection test could not establish reachability. |
| No IPv6 AAAA record found | The DNS lookup did not return an AAAA record for the tested hostname. |
| IPv6 connectivity was not tested | The checking server could not perform the live IPv6 connection test. |
| DNS lookup could not be completed | The DNS lookup failed, so IPv6 availability could not be determined. |
A response such as HTTP 301, 403, or 405 can still confirm that an HTTPS server was reached. These status codes do not necessarily mean the requested page was delivered successfully.
Why Does a Website Have AAAA Records but Fail the IPv6 HTTPS Test?
An AAAA record can exist even when the website is not accessible through IPv6 HTTPS.
Possible causes include incorrect DNS records, an unavailable IPv6 route, hosting firewall restrictions, a server that is not listening on IPv6 port 443, or a TLS certificate problem.
The checking server’s own network restrictions can also prevent a successful connection.
If you manage the website, check that your hosting provider supports IPv6, the published AAAA records point to the intended server or content delivery network (CDN), and HTTPS is configured correctly.
After making changes, allow time for DNS caches to update before testing again.
Does IPv6 Support Improve Website Speed?
IPv6 support provides an additional internet protocol for accessing your website. It does not automatically make a website faster.
Actual performance depends on network routing, server response times, congestion, hosting infrastructure, and the visitor’s connection.
A website can also use a CDN that accepts IPv6 connections from visitors while connecting to its origin server over IPv4. Therefore, a successful IPv6 test does not necessarily mean the origin server itself has an IPv6 connection.
Important Testing Limitations
This tool checks a website from the NetTools Pakistan server, not directly from your computer, mobile phone, or internet service provider.
It does not test whether your PTCL, StormFiber, Nayatel, mobile data, or other internet connection supports IPv6.
The HTTPS test depends on the checking server having working outgoing IPv6 connectivity. If that capability is unavailable, the tool may still display DNS records without verifying HTTPS reachability.
The checker examines the entered hostname and its HTTPS root path. It does not test every page, follow redirects, measure website speed, or verify every advertised IPv6 address.
Entered domain names are processed by the NetTools Pakistan server and queried through DNS. Results may be temporarily cached.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know whether my website supports IPv6?
Enter your website domain in the checker. If an AAAA record is found, the hostname advertises an IPv6 address. If the HTTPS connection also succeeds, the website’s HTTPS service was reachable over IPv6 from the checking server.
Can a website work without IPv6?
Yes. Websites can remain accessible over IPv4 without advertising IPv6 addresses. However, IPv6-only clients generally require an IPv6-accessible service or a compatible translation mechanism to access an IPv4-only destination.
What is the difference between an A record and an AAAA record?
An A record maps a hostname to an IPv4 address. An AAAA record maps a hostname to an IPv6 address. A website can publish both records for the same hostname.
Is this an IPv6 test for my internet connection?
No. This tool checks a website’s DNS configuration and possible HTTPS connectivity over IPv6 from the NetTools Pakistan server. It does not determine whether your device, Wi-Fi router, or internet provider has IPv6 connectivity.
Check Your Website’s IPv6 Configuration
Whether you manage a Pakistani business website, an online store, a WordPress blog, or a hosting server, checking your IPv6 setup can help identify DNS and connectivity problems.
Use the checker above to inspect your hostname, review its AAAA records, and confirm HTTPS reachability where the testing environment permits. If the results are inconclusive, review your hosting and DNS configuration and test again.
