Domain RDAP Lookup

Check publicly available registration information for a domain name using the Domain RDAP Lookup tool. Enter a domain such as example.com to retrieve its registrar, registration date, expiration date, nameservers and status, where the relevant registry provides these details.

No registration or account is required to perform a lookup.

DOMAIN INTELLIGENCE

Check domain registration details

Look up public registration dates, registrar, nameservers and domain status using the registration data service for a supported extension.

Enter a domain only, without https:// or a page path.

What this lookup checks

Registration timeline

Creation, update and expiration events, where the registry provides them.

Registrar & status

Registrar name and status codes reported in the public record.

Nameservers

The nameservers listed in RDAP, which may differ from current DNS answers.

Pakistan domain note: Some country-code extensions, including .pk, may have no IANA-listed RDAP endpoint. When no service is published, check with the relevant registry instead, such as PKNIC for .pk domains.

How to Use the Domain RDAP Lookup Tool

Enter the domain name you want to investigate, without https://, www. unless it is part of the registered name, or any page address.

  1. Enter a domain: Type a domain such as example.com in the search field.
  2. Start the lookup: Click Look up domain.
  3. Review the results: Check the registrar, registration dates, expiration date, nameservers and domain status.
  4. Check the source: Where available, open the original RDAP record to examine the registry’s published information.

The tool uses the IANA RDAP service directory to locate an appropriate registration data service for supported domain extensions. Results depend on the information the registry makes publicly available.

What Is a Domain RDAP Lookup?

RDAP stands for Registration Data Access Protocol. It is an internet standard for retrieving structured registration information about domain names and other internet resources.

A domain RDAP lookup can help website owners, developers and domain administrators find registration details without logging in to a registrar account.

For generic top-level domains such as .com, .net and .org, RDAP became the definitive registration data access method on January 28, 2025, replacing most mandatory WHOIS services.

Unlike traditional WHOIS responses, which often use inconsistent text formats, RDAP returns structured data that software can process more reliably.

Understanding Your RDAP Lookup Results

The tool organizes the available information into several fields.

ResultWhat It Means
RegistrarThe company responsible for managing the domain registration
Registration DateThe date the domain was registered, as reported in RDAP
Expiration DateThe expiration date recorded by the registry
Last ChangedThe date of the most recently reported registration record change
Domain StatusCodes describing restrictions or registration states
NameserversDNS server names listed in the registration record

Not every RDAP service returns every field. Missing information does not automatically indicate an error.

Registration and Expiration Dates

The registration date helps identify when a domain was originally registered. The expiration date is particularly useful when reviewing domains that you manage.

An expiration date should not be treated as the exact date a domain becomes available for someone else to register. Renewal, grace, redemption and deletion rules may apply.

If you own the domain, confirm renewal deadlines through your registrar account.

Domain Status Codes

RDAP records may include status codes describing restrictions or ongoing registration processes.

For example:

  • clientTransferProhibited: The registrar has placed a restriction on transferring the domain to another registrar.
  • clientUpdateProhibited: Certain domain updates are restricted by the registrar.
  • serverTransferProhibited: A registry-level restriction prevents the domain from being transferred.
  • pendingDelete: The domain is in a deletion-related state that requires careful interpretation.

A transfer restriction does not automatically mean something is wrong. Many domains use protective status settings to reduce the risk of unauthorized transfers.

For detailed explanations, consult ICANN’s EPP Status Codes documentation.

Nameserver Information

Nameservers help identify which DNS infrastructure is associated with a domain.

However, RDAP nameserver information may differ from current DNS answers. This lookup is not a live DNS resolution test and does not verify whether a website or hosting server is working.

RDAP vs. WHOIS: What Is the Difference?

Both RDAP and WHOIS are associated with domain registration information, but they differ in how data is accessed and presented.

FeatureRDAPTraditional WHOIS
Response formatStructured JSONMostly plain text
Service discoveryStandardized bootstrap mechanismOften requires knowing the WHOIS server
TransportHTTPS for web-based RDAPTraditionally TCP port 43
InternationalizationDesigned to support internationalized dataLess consistent
Access permissionsSupports differentiated accessMore limited standardized capabilities

RDAP does not guarantee that every piece of registration information will be visible. Registries and registrars can restrict access to personal details according to applicable rules and policies.

Does Domain RDAP Lookup Support .pk Domains?

Pakistan’s .pk domain namespace is managed by PKNIC.

At the time of verification in October 2026, IANA did not list an RDAP base URL for .pk. Consequently, this tool may report that no public RDAP service is available for that extension.

This limitation does not mean a .pk domain is unregistered, expired or available for purchase.

For Pakistani domains, use the official PKNIC website to check applicable registration information and services.

Why Might an RDAP Lookup Fail?

A lookup can fail even when the domain exists.

No RDAP service found: The domain extension may not have an endpoint listed in the IANA service directory.

No record returned: The selected RDAP service could not find a matching registration record. This is not proof that the domain is available to register.

Some fields are missing: The registry may omit particular dates, registrar details or other information from its public response.

Registry unavailable or rate-limited: The service may be temporarily inaccessible or may restrict automated requests.

Invalid domain: Check that you entered a valid domain name rather than a complete website URL.

If the result appears incomplete, try again later or consult the registrar or registry directly.

Are RDAP Lookups Private?

RDAP searches use domain names supplied by the user. On NetTools Pakistan, the lookup request is processed through the website’s server and sent to the relevant external RDAP service.

Successful lookup results may be temporarily cached to reduce repeated requests. The tool displays selected public registration fields rather than full raw records or private registrant contact data.

Some personal registration information may be withheld by the registry or registrar. This tool does not bypass those restrictions.

Important Limitations

The Domain RDAP Lookup tool provides publicly available registration metadata. It does not verify domain purchasing availability, website ownership, active DNS resolution, hosting performance, SSL certificate validity or website security.

For domain renewals, transfers, account recovery or registration disputes, rely on your registrar’s official records and support channels.
