IPv6 Address Checker

Check the IPv6 address visible to this website and find out which Internet Protocol version your connection uses to reach our server. The free IPv6 Address Checker can display an IPv6 address when our server observes one, or report that the check request arrived over IPv4.

You can also enter an IPv6 address manually to check whether its format is valid, identify its address category, and view its compressed and expanded versions.

Use the checker below to get started. No registration is required.

Check the IPv6 address seen by this website

Find out whether a request to our server is arriving over IPv6. No external IP lookup service is used.

Run the check to see which IP version reaches our server.

An IPv4 result does not prove your internet connection lacks IPv6. The browser may choose IPv4, or a proxy may hide the original visitor address.

What does an IPv6 address checker show?

IPv6 is an internet addressing system that uses 128-bit addresses. This checker reports an IPv6 address only if our WordPress server sees one for the check request. It does not scan your computer or read your router settings.

Why might no IPv6 address appear?

Your browser may have reached this website over IPv4, the website may lack an IPv6 route, or a VPN or reverse proxy may have changed what the server sees. If you want to investigate, check your device and router's IPv6 settings, ask your internet provider about availability, and retry from another connection. This result alone cannot diagnose an ISP-wide IPv6 problem.

Is an IPv6 address public or private?

The format validator can recognize common address categories, such as link-local (fe80::/10), unique local (fc00::/7), multicast and documentation addresses. It also identifies addresses in the usual global-unicast range, but format alone does not prove an address is reachable from the internet.

Privacy and scope

The connection check sends a request to this website's own WordPress endpoint. This plugin does not add visitor IP history or transmit addresses to an external lookup API. It briefly stores a keyed, non-reversible IP hash for request throttling; your web host, CDN or security services may still retain their own access logs. Manually entered addresses are validated in the browser. This tool does not confirm IPv6 access to every website and does not locate an address geographically.

How to Use the IPv6 Address Checker

You can check your connection or validate an IPv6 address in a few steps.

  1. Check your connection: Click Check my IPv6. The tool contacts our website’s server and reports the IP version observed for that request.
  2. Review the result: If the server observes an IPv6 address, the tool displays it with a copy option. An IPv4 result means that particular request was observed over IPv4.
  3. Validate an address: Paste an IPv6 address into the validator and click Validate address. The tool checks its syntax and displays its compressed format, expanded format, and address category.

The automatic check requires a working connection to our website. Manual address validation runs in your browser.

Understanding Your IPv6 Check Results

The checker can display several connection statuses.

ResultWhat it means
IPv6 observed on this requestThe server observed an IPv6 address for the request.
IPv4 observed, no IPv6 detectedThe server observed an IPv4 connection. IPv6 may still be available on another route.
Address could not be determinedThe server could not identify a valid client IP address.
Check unavailableThe request failed, timed out, or could not access the checking endpoint.

Important: A successful IPv6 result describes the route observed by this website. It does not guarantee that every other website is reachable over IPv6. Likewise, an IPv4 result does not prove your internet provider lacks IPv6 support.

How to Check Your IPv6 Address on Your Device

If you want to compare the website’s result with the addresses assigned to your computer or phone, you can inspect your device’s network settings.

On Windows 10 or Windows 11

Open Command Prompt and enter:

ipconfig

Look for your active Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter. Its details may contain an IPv6 Address, Temporary IPv6 Address, or Link-local IPv6 Address.

An address beginning with fe80 is commonly a link-local address. It is used for communication on the local network and does not, by itself, establish that IPv6 internet access is available.

On Android or iPhone

Open your device’s Wi-Fi settings and inspect the details of the connected network. Depending on the operating system, manufacturer, and network configuration, assigned IPv6 addresses may be displayed.

If the address is not visible in the settings, that does not necessarily mean IPv6 is unavailable.

On Your Wi-Fi Router

Some routers display IPv6 information under Internet, WAN, LAN, or Advanced Network settings. The labels differ between devices.

For PTCL broadband, Flash Fiber, and other internet connections in Pakistan, check the router’s actual configuration and ask your provider whether IPv6 is supported on your service. Do not assume that a router’s IPv6 option means the ISP has enabled IPv6 connectivity.

Compressed vs Expanded IPv6 Addresses

IPv6 uses 128-bit addresses. A complete address can be written as eight groups of hexadecimal digits separated by colons. Many addresses contain zero groups that can be shortened for readability.

For example, the following two forms represent the same IPv6 address.

Compressed format:

2001:db8::1

Expanded format:

2001:0db8:0000:0000:0000:0000:0000:0001

The :: notation replaces consecutive zero groups. This makes longer IPv6 addresses easier to read and copy.

The prefix 2001:db8::/32 is reserved for documentation, so this example is not a real publicly assigned visitor address.

Our validator displays the compressed and expanded forms of valid supported IPv6 inputs. Enter the address itself without an attached subnet prefix such as /64, port number, or interface zone identifier.

What If Your Connection Shows IPv4 Instead of IPv6?

An IPv4 result is not automatically an internet problem. Your browser may have selected an IPv4 route, the website may be reachable only over IPv4, or a VPN or proxy may have affected the address observed by the server.

If you expected IPv6 connectivity, compare the result using another network, review your device and router settings, and check your internet provider’s IPv6 availability.

You can also compare a Wi-Fi connection with mobile data. Different networks may use different IP configurations.

This checker cannot enable IPv6 on your device or internet connection. Changing router settings without confirming ISP support may disrupt connectivity.

Does This Checker Test Complete IPv6 Connectivity?

No. This tool checks the IP version visible to our website for one request. It also validates the format of manually entered IPv6 addresses.

It does not measure internet speed, test every IPv6 destination, identify all devices on your network, or determine whether an IPv6 address is accessible from the public internet.

A separate IPv6 connectivity test using a suitable IPv6-enabled endpoint is needed for a more specific connectivity check.
